Rhoda’s Sketching Fast & Loose Sketching Techniques are soooo useful to:

  • Capture the essence of a subject
  • Develop strong observational skills
  • Remember travel and other important life memories
  • Use “down time” wisely: waits, cafes, airports, etc.
  • Integrate into other visual mediums (sketchnotes, graphic recording, graphic facilitation and other visual ways of working)
  • Get ‘in the zone’ and stress release!

Sketching Materials

Develop skill in sketching what you see as simply and boldly as possible, using a few very basic art materials.

Rhoda demos techniques suitable for both beginners and intermediates who want to develop more confidence in drawing. As well as skilled artists who need to “loosen up” in order to work faster.

Students Have Said:

“Thank you so much for your exhilarating and informative class. I enjoyed myself very much and have come away with a multitude of new ideas, things to practice and a new confidence to drawing in public.” Moira L

“The technique you teach is fascinating and fun. Your choice of venues and subject matter for each class gave me a broad spectrum of sketching opportunities. Your ability to keep us on track and yet able to enjoy one another was perfect. Your expertise, your patience, plus your enthusiasm and appreciation for the community you and I have chosen to call home, combined beautifully in assisting me in my sketching endeavors. Who wouldn’t want to be a Fast & Loose Woman of San Miguel! Gracias Chica!” Cheri Rae

“Rhoda’s workshop was a real game-changer for me — she totally helped me to get out of my head and stop worrying so much about my lines.” Meagan B.

Do you avoid including people in your travel sketches? Would you like to learn how to draw figures quickly and with confidence? Not sure about the basic proportions of the human head and body? Well, I’m here to help!

Starting on June 5, I will offer a weekly 2-hour class in drawing & sketching the figure, with live clothed models. Traditional life drawing classes provide a NUDE model, but if you are an urban sketcher or making a travel journal, you’re much more likely to see (and draw) people wearing clothes! So, our models will be dressed, to give you the opportunity to practice drawing ordinary people wearing everyday items of apparel.

These classes are open to all levels of skill. Take one or more classes, on a drop-in basis. I will provide instruction and demonstrations, with a focus on a variety of subjects from week to week: action poses, clothing/drapery, portraits/caricature, working with toned paper, etc.

When and Where:

Wednesdays from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Starting date June 5.  Come at 10am to socialize and have a light snack.
