Petroglyph: Muybridge

Petroglyph Muybridge

mixed media on canvas

24×20 (61×51 cm)

colorized enhancement of a photo from the dancer sequence by E. Muybridge

Based on the nineteenth century action photos of E. Muybridge.  Each black-and-white photo was colorized and recreated with Corel Painter’s cloning brushes. The figures were printed on Kozo Shi paper and adhered to a canvas. The canvas had been prepared using a thick application of acrylic fiber paste around the edges, to evoke the look of a slab of rough rock with a smooth area scraped out of the center. Acrylic paint and Prismacolor pencils helped blend the figures into the background.
