About Rhoda Draws

The artist Rhoda Draws, formerly known as Rhoda Grossman, works in both traditional and digital media to create caricatures, portraits and figurative paintings.

Rhoda’s approach to figure drawing is distinctive. She brings a portable MacBook Pro computer and pressure-sensitive Wacom tablet to a session with the model. Dozens of quick poses are created using Corel Painter. The best of these nude gestures are printed on a range of archival papers and some will inspire new paintings in oil or acrylic (”messy” media). “I never tire of finding ways to blend digital and traditional techniques.”

Rhoda is the author of several books on the creative use of pixel-based drawing and painting software. Her latest series is Digital Painting Fundamentals with Corel Painter. Also known as the “pixel-packin’ mama,” she has taught computer graphics techniques at several schools in the San Francisco bay area and authored numerous tutorials on CD for both Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter users. Her domain (literally!) is digitalpainting.com..

Doing business as Rhoda Draws A Crowd! she has been providing live caricature entertainment for over 35 years. In 1990 she began to transfer her skills to the computer and now Rhoda Draws A Crowd digitally. She "makes faces" at parties, conventions and celebrations for clients such as Apple, Google, IBM, and Adobe Systems. But she still does weddings and Bar Mitzvahs.
